Fear the walking dead episodes6/2/2023 ![]() I also just question whether we need this type of episode in a show that was, at its core, rooted in some semblance of realism. While I do think that both Lennie James and Karen David did a great job with this scene, I think everything from the premise-why are they driving to June?-to the gimmick-seriously way too much time spent in dream land-to the shocking twist was overwrought and unsatisfying after any length of consideration. Since I wrote my sneak-peak review earlier this week, I’ve soured considerably on the whole thing. It’s certainly dark and emotionally powerful-something Fear rarely achieves-but it’s just such a hard turn in that direction. Maybe because I’m so jaded with this show, but I’ve come to believe this scene is also a bit exploitative, crafted for shock value more than anything. This is kind of a cool-if depressing-twist, actually. Instead, she was dreaming Athena’s final moments. She thought she was dreaming her last moments, that her vision was sent to her as a way to help her pass on to the other side. Maybe something went wrong really, really late in the game. Instead, the baby is born but we hear no wailing. We’re all expecting Grace to kick the bucket. This is where things take a super dark, shockingly bleak turn. MORE FROM FORBES 'Fear The Walking Dead' Has A Villain Problem By null The bad guys in these shows don’t actually have feelings for their compatriots, however. So Morgan gives him the key and Riley says “good luck” and bails, though he would totally have been justified in killing Morgan after Morgan killed four of his friends. He points the gun at Grace but still Morgan hesitates, which probably doesn’t feel so great if you’re Grace, and she yells at him that Athena has to live, she has to live because otherwise the Kingdom of Texas will fall into the hands of the Nine Dragons of Gaalth and their sorcerous master, Primgroarmain the Foul and all the fields will become fallow and the peasants will starve and a pestilence will come over the land and the dead will walk the earth forever. That’s when Riley comes back with his pistol and demands the key. ![]() She seems right on the brink of dying but then just sort of rallies and is fine. ![]() Grace wakes up to Morgan, revealing to him that the baby is a girl, her name is Athena, and she’s going to take the One Ring to Mount Doom and save us all from Sauron’s nefarious clutches and that also she’s the Boy Who Lived and to look for the little lightning bolt scar on her forehead. ![]() I like Athena quite a bit-newcomer Sahan Srinivasan does a great job-so it’s a shame this is her final moment on the show. First she has a touching, heartfelt moment with Athena who she’s come clean with at this point, revealing that she’s her mother. Maybe he thought he had Morgan so outnumbered he wouldn’t need it, but I think it’s just lazy writing.īefore he comes back, Grace wakes back up. Did he just forget to bring it before? I’m not sure. We’ve seen him turn on the killing machine before and he does so again, though he inexplicably spares Riley who then goes and gets his gun. It’s one of Morgan’s finer fighting moments, actually. Morgan is taking a break from his “we shouldn’t kill” phase and uses his staff with deadly precision. When Morgan takes on the Believers in the real world, so do Grace and Athena in dream land. Zombie Riley mimics this in Grace’s hallucinations. In the real world, Riley confronts Morgan and demands he hand over the key. This is actually kind of a cool parallel realities moment, though the entire set up of dream land is so hokey I can’t really get past it to actually enjoy much of it. The Believers get inside the stables and zombie versions of them appear in dream world. Maybe the spawn of these two lovebirds will go on to cure the zombie outbreak or something. ensure that Dwight and Sherry get back together. Grace is convinced that this will happen and that Athena will go on to. She died giving birth to Athena sixteen years ago. Grace realizes she needs to wake up in order to give birth to Athena. Again, why did he think transporting her hours through dangerous wilderness was a smart or sane idea? Grace is going into labor and June is too far away to get to them in time (hours by horse, and she’s all out of gas). Outside, Riley and the Believers are trying to get in and get to Morgan. Morgan is trying to barricade himself and unconscious real world Grace into a stables. She uses fake Athena’s walkman to “listen in” better and try and figure out what’s going on. She can hear the ghostly voice of real world Morgan coming down from the clouds. As this plays out, it slowly dawns on Grace that she’s dreaming.
